New content!

New content!

The Sustainability CollectionWe have added over 50 titles to the Docuseek2 Collection since October 1, including 40 titles from Bullfrog Films, nine new titles from Collective Eye Films, nine new titles from Icarus Films, and new titles from The Fanlight Collection and Villon Films. The Docuseek2 Collection now has over 440 titles, about twice what was available at this time last year. See our New Releases page for the latest updates.

We have also created three significant new thematic collections from the Docuseek2 content, including The Anthropology Collection, our Philosophers and Ideas collection, and most recently, The Sustainability Collection. The Sustainability Collection includes over 60 titles from leading distributors in the independent and social issue documentary world, including Bullfrog Films, Collective Eye Films, and Icarus Films. As with all of our titles, Docuseek2 is the exclusive academic streaming source for these films.

Promoting your content to your users

Promoting your content

You want your Docuseek2 content to be used. We want your Docuseek2 content to be used...

We have been giving some thought to how we here at Docuseek2 can assist librarians in promoting the content that you have licensed. (Here's a link to a blog post on the challenge of boosting discoverabilty and doing "post-sales marketing".) In addition to providing MARC records for all of our titles, we have released two new tools.

The first is a library of flyers from Docuseek2 that highlight collections within the overall Docuseek2 database. The second is a tool for creating custom emails to notify your users about titles that fit in with their discipline or interests. Let your anthropologists know about your anthropology titles. Let your economists know about your economics films. Let your cross-disciplinary sustainability faculty know about your sustainability titles. In just a few clicks...

For more on these tools, see the Help wiki, or check out our YouTube help videos (see below!)

Help videos

YouTube Docuseek2 has a YouTube channel! There are seven videos on the channel so far. We have five help videos, including two on Docuseek2's search tools, and three on different features to help build discovery and promote your content (MARC records, online promotional material, and generating emails about DS2 content). And we have two promotional videos produced for the 2013 National Media Market and the Charleston Conference that are featured on the current home page.

New licensing models

We have introduced two new licensing models — a token-based model and an evidence-based acquisition model.

The token-based model allows you to purchase "tokens". Tokens may be exchanged for streaming licenses. Because Docuseek2 license fees drop with the number of licenses, tokens allow you to get a better price without having to decide which titles to license at the time of purchase. You have one year to exchange your tokens for licenses.

The evidence-based acquisition model is available if you are interested in licensing at least 200 titles for two years or more. In year one, you pay the annual license fee for the number of titles you want to commit to, but receive access to the entire Docuseek2 collection. In year two, you decide which titles to retain, and pay the annual license fee for the committed number of titles. With this model, your final license decision can be informed based on usage or user response.

Interested in either one of these models for your institution? Contact Elena Wayne via email at ewayne@docuseek2.com, or by telephone at 847-537-0606.

Site updates

The Docuseek2 site continues to develop.

  • The forward-looking move to Amazon Web Services (AWS) for the Docuseek2 website infrastructure — a more scalable, available and reliable platform than what we were using before
  • New tools to help you promote your content (see above)
  • Clip-making tool — this is a big one; look for more in our next newsletter (or look here for the initial documentation)
  • Easier-to-read Link To / Embed information
  • Improved Collections page
  • And lots of smaller enhancements and fine-tuning!

Upcoming conferences we will be attending
