Docuseek2 partners with Tek Data

Docuseek2 now works with Tek Data's SNAP search engine and data aggregator system. SNAP provides libraries, school systems, regional media centers and colleges and universities — any organization that provides multiple collections of digital content to its users — a convenient way to search for resources and authenticate users. Now SNAP users can easily integrate Docuseek2 content in their collection. To share our excitement about this new feature, we offer any SNAP user 20% off of their first order with Docuseek2, if placed by September 30. Contact Elena Wayne for more information.

The Kartemquin Labor Collection / The Kartemquin Collection

The Kartemquin Labor Collection During the 1970s and 80s, Kartemquin Films documented the historic transformation of the global economy as it played out in the industrial heartland of America. Their films captured the struggle of blue collar workers to save their unions and their standard of living in the face of demands for workplace concessions, closing factories, and the dismantling of the social safety net. We are offering this collection of seven films at a very special price, and, through a special arrangement with Kartemquin, if you license the Kartemquin Labor Collection for three years, we will send you the DVDs, with full institutional rights. Contact ewayne@docuseek2.com for details.

The entire Kartemquin Collection features 22 of their early, ground-breaking verité films made from 1966 to 1984. The films capture a rich and turbulent period of American history reflected mostly in events in and around Chicago: community response to the Vietnam War, student activism, gentrification, the rising women's movement, as well as the aforementioned de-industrialization and union-management conflict. The films present a unique portrait of two decades in street-level detail unavailable in the survey films of the era. To celebrate the availability of the Kartemquin Collection for the first time for academic streaming, we are offering the 20% off of the entire collection if licensed by September 30. View the collection at Kartemquin Collection, or contact ewayne@docuseek2.com for details.

Interactive transcripts

Docuseek2 now has searchable, interactive transcripts for over 50 titles, and is committed to doubling that number by the end of the summer. Interactive transcripts display a scrolling window next to the player. The transcript frame highlights text as it is spoken, and allows you to search the transcript for specific text and jump to that place in the video. Interactive transcripts also provide a way to create clips by selecting the portion of the transcript to include in the clip. To find titles with interactive transcripts, look for the search option on the Advanced Search page. Interactive

Site updates

We added some additional information on the Docuseek2 home page about what exactly Docuseek2 is. The Subject list is still there — click on the Subjects tab to see the list of subjects.

And on the topic of subjects — we have developed a new taxonomy of subjects that should be more intuitive for users. And to accompany the new subject tree, we have sharpened the subject categorization of all of the titles in the Docuseek2 database. Before, the Subject tree tagging for films erred on the side of breadth. Now subject tree searches will return fewer titles, but those titles will fit conventional notions of the subject being searched. Visit the Subject page on our help wiki to see the complete list.
